Our Mission

Plowshares Theatre Company exists to produce plays and programs that inspire, affirm, and exhibit African American life.

Plowshares Theatre Company seeks to:

• Present the honest depictions of African American life and culture.
• Provide a professional and nurturing environment for artists to create exciting and evocative work.
• Educate our children by using theatre as a tool for enhancing learning and knowing.
• Develop new works, present the best of existing works, and share our artistic resources with other theaters - locally and throughout the country - to promote the talents existing in Detroit.
• Enlighten the public in support of professional African American theatre, and the belief that African American Theatre and culture is relevant to all people.
• Uphold the highest artistic standards of excellence in production of professional, relevant African American theatre.

Our Vision

The vision of Plowshares is to be a world-class regional theatre representing the mark of excellence of Detroit and its artists. Our vision begins with the artist and ends with the audience. Our challenge is to nurture both. We believe theatre is life and Plowshares is its celebration.
